Associations between parent characteristics and child characteristics must be considered to mitigate the impacts of child anxiety. In this Review, Yap et al. synthesize evidence about the directionality of influence between parents and children in the development and maintenance of child anxiety, highlighting implications for intervention and the efficacy of current approaches.
