Refining a new movement by practicing it upside down

In this study, participants improved at copying an unfamiliar alphabet character even though they only practiced writing rotated versions of it. The experiments reveal that the motor system can refine movements by creating an abstraction of their structure, and not only by repeating the same mechanical muscle commands.
